Bulgaria is a republic in the Balkans in southestern Europe. It shares borders with Romania to the north, Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. The Black Sea lies to the East. Bulgaria has a population of around 7.5 million, with negative population growth since the 1990s.
The climate of Bulgaria ranges from the Alpine peaks in the Balkans, to the mild and sunny Black Sea Coast. The climate is continental on the Danube plain and Mediterranean in the valleys of Macedonia and Thrace. The climate is temperate with cold winters (with snowfall) and hot summers (rain first and then dry).
